This is a technical book that I wrote many years ago. Although it should have gone extinct within a few years, copies were still changing hands at grossly inflated prices, until fairly recently.

Sat. Im. Inst.’s relevance to a site devoted to earth science may appear to be limited. After all the subject matter couldn’t be more different. On the other hand it was the first time I explored the notion that ‘the reader often knows best what it is that he needs to know’. You need expert consultants to be sure. But the lay author has to be in a position to call the shots.
