A TIMELINE FOR THE PLANET click for Home Page
This site is
aimed at my fellow taxpayers – we who pay for most of this science to be
done! But I hope I’m sufficiently
authoritative that scientists too will find it useful.
The site
aims to outline the History of the Planet in words that even I can understand.
We are constantly bombarded with tit-bits of
information, from television programmes, articles, even books. I wanted to know how these individual jigsaw
pieces fitted together into a coherent story.
Scientists too have a need for a simple
distillation. It’s clear from reading
the literature, that many of them have little idea how their particular field
fits into the overall picture. (Click here for the
‘oxygen’ story.)
This is not a criticism. It’s a direct result of the ‘focus’ needed to
do good research.
My filing cabinet bulges with books, and with 15 years
worth of cuttings from Top Drawer periodicals.
I’m confident that the broad story that I tell is right. But the details keep changing, and some of my
facts and dates will be out of date.
Some will even be plain wrong, though only a few I hope.
Constructive criticism and authoritative information
for inclusion would be very welcome (please click here).
